Battle of the Books

Exciting news!  The Kern County Battle of the Books is now affiliated with Kern Reading Association!
A little history-
Battle of the Books was started by Erna Wentland and was held at Belridge School.  In 2002, Katie Feldstein and Sue Mustoe took over administration of the Kern County Battle (grades 4-6 and 6-8).  In 2009 the competitions had to be held on two days, with over 600 participants in grades 4-6 alone!  After this event, the steering committee agreed the teams were too large to manage effectively, and teams had to limit the number of participants.  There were 48 Kern County schools, public and private, represented last year.
And the enthusiasm continues!
This year, Kern Reading Association has joined with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools to support the Kern County Battle of the Books 2011-2012 competition!  Along with corporate donations from Grimmway Farms and Paramount Citrus, the Battle is expanding to three days in order for more schools  and more students to participate! ( 2 days for Grades 4-6 and 1 day for Grades 6-8).

March 23, 2012 - for Kern County Southern Region schools (grades 4-6)
April 19, 2012 - for Kern County Middle School/Junior High (grades 6-8)
