Our Mission:
The mission of the Kern Reading Association (KRA) is to increase literacy by improving all aspects of reading instruction in local schools, supporting community-wide reading endeavors, and representing the purposes of the California and International Reading Associations.

Activities of the Kern Reading Association Include:

  • Sponsoring an annual conference to promote quality language arts instruction for students (K-12)
  • Distributing quarterly newsletter
  • Donating books to areas of need locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Hosting yearly Young Authors’ Fair & providing students with an audience for their published work and an opportunity to meet outstanding professional authors and illustrators.
  • Awarding Literacy Grants and Scholarships to recognize innovative literacy instruction.
  • Hosting yearly Book Talk Tea to celebrate literacy and encourage KRA/CRA membership.
  • Co-sponsoring a summer reading program for Kern County students.
