Dear Friends,
Welcome back to a new year of reading and literacy. This year, we have three events planned for Kern County beginning with a professional development that is scheduled for November 2. The focus for this will be writing since we will be bring back a smaller version of the Authors’ Fair this year. Secondly, we have a one day author event that is planned for March 8 which will include student-made books and an author presentation. Russo’s Books will also be in attendance to sell books. Our final event will be our annual Book Talk Tea that is scheduled for April 25. This is a fun-filled event in which we learn about books that are excellent to share with students. Russo’s is also available for this event as well. KRA is still working on the details for each event, so stay tuned for updates.
In addition to the events, KRA is also involved with Battle of the Books. We would like to thank KRA members Katie Feldstein, Marilyn Fowler, and Jan Lanse for their many years of service with the BOB. They have decided to retire from the event this year and move on to other adventures in life. We are pleased to have Alana Tinsley and Rebekah Stambook take over the duties of the BOB and join with us at KRA.
In a final note, I would like to remind you that the CRA conference will be held on October 20 & 21, 2023. You can attend the conference in-person or live stream it. To find out more information, visit the CRA website at www.californiareading.org. Our own KRA members, Sandy Yoon and Rebecca Langston-George, will be featured speakers at this event.
I hope to see all of you this year.
Sincerely,
Brenda Russell
KRA President
