Professional Development Conference & Young Authors’ Fair Orientation
October 9, 2019
Kern County Superintendent of Schools
City Center - 1300 17th Street, Room 1B
Special guest speaker: Rebecca Langston-George
You assigned the writing. They did the writing . . . sort of. Now What? Join KRA in welcoming local author and teacher, Rebecca Langston-George, as she instructs teachers how to guide students in editing their own writing. We will learn about structured peer critique conversations, directed self-editing, and using rubrics to light the way.
Rebecca Langston-George is the author of thirteen nonfiction books for children. She was a 2016 recipient of the California Reading Association’s Armin Schulz award for children’s writing in social justice.
In addition to serving as the Regional Advisor for the Central-Coastal region of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Writers and Illustrators), she’s a full time educator currently teaching fifth grade. Rebecca writes and (mostly) rewrites at a treadmill desk in Bakersfield, California. You can read more at www.rebeccalangston-george.com
Books will be available for purchase from Russo’s Books.
PLEASE NOTE: Schools interested in hosting an author for the Young Authors’ Fair author visitation week, March 16-20, 2020, must attend this event. You will be provided information about YAF and the necessary forms that are unavailable online. Additional information can be found at www.kernreadingassociation.org.
You will not want to miss this wonderful opportunity for both the editing instruction and YAF!
